The following is a series of step-by-step quick reference guides for using the Headcount app. Keep this handy when testing the app and using it during your drills.

How to Open the Headcount App

  1. Open http://app.headcount.io in any web browser
  2. Login using the email address and password with which you registered

How to Start Evacuation

  1. Tap the Messages tab
  2. tap the Evacuate button
  3. Select a Building
  4. Tap Start button
This starts the evacuation in the Headcount app and also automatically sends a broadcast message to all evacuees.

How to Find Evacuees in the App

  1. Tap the People tab
  2. There will be 4 sub-tabs that filter the evacuees a. Danger Zone – only evacuees in the group leader’s group that are not ‘Safe’ b. My Directs – all evacuees in the group leader’s group c. My Org – evacuees that are in a superset of the group leader’s group (eg: a department) d. Everyone – all evacuees

How to Mark Evacuee as Safe

  1. Tap on the People tab
  2. Use the Danger Zone and My Directs tabs to find the evacuee
  3. Tap the Change Status button
  4. Tap the green Safe button
Note 1: other statuses, like Danger and Unknown can also be set here.
Note 2: once marked as Safe, the evacuee will be removed from the Danger Zone tab. However, the evacuee will still be visible in the My Directs tab.

How Evacuees Self Check-In

Using Email or SMS, the evacuees can respond the broadcast message that is automatically sent 2 minutes after the evacuation starts prompting them to self check-in. a. To set Headcount status to Safe, reply “1” b. To set Headcount status to Danger, reply “2” Note: the amount of time to wait before sending the email and SMS that prompts the evacuees can be customized.

How to Send a Broadcast Message

  1. Tap the Messages tab
  2. Tap the Broadcast button
  3. Select the recipients
  4. Write the message
  5. Tap the Send button

How to Send a One-on-One Message

From the Messages Tab
  1. Tap the Messages tab
  2. In the list of messages, tap on either the profile picture or the name of the person to which you want to send the message
  3. Write the message
  4. Tap the Send button
From the People Tab
  1. Tap the People tab
  2. Find the person to which you want to send a message
  3. Tap the Messages button
  4. Write the message
  5. Tap the Send button

How to Check Messages

From the Messages tab Tap the Messages tab to bring up the evacuation messages. This displays all messages for the current evacuation. From the People tab
  1. Tap the People tab
  2. Find the person whose messages you want to read
  3. Tap the Messages button
This displays all the messages for this particular evacuee

How to Send All-Clear Message

  1. Tap the Messages tab
  2. Tap the All Clear button
  3. Tap the Send button
This sends an all-clear broadcast message to everyone in the evacuation and tells the Headcount system the evacuation is complete.
